News Recap: Toronto Winners, Spielberg and Jurassic Park 4, Clooney's Leatherheads, Pitt in Mission Impossible
September 19, 2006
by Alex Billington
In lieu of the lack of news posts over the weekend (due largely to the fact that I was away from a computer for nearly 72 hours), I've decided to put together this news recap covering some of the bigger stories to occur over the weekend and early this week. Regular news posting will resume to its normal operation immediately.
In addition, we've updated the "Movie News" section to include JoBlo.com, Ain't It Cool News, and IESB.net.
Toronto International Film Fest Winners Announced
One of the biggest winners is the controversial film by Gabriel Range, Death of a President, depicting President Bush's assassination. In addition, Alejandro Monteverde's Bella took home the People's Choice Award. Read on for all of the winners.
Stephen Spielberg May Direct Jurassic Park 4
This is an interesting bit of news… In an interview from Sky News with Spielberg, he stated that he may be interested in directing Jurassic Park 4 instead of the initially slated Joe Johnston in order to speed up the production of the movie. Some speculate that this is because Universal is trying to hire Johnston to direct The Mummy 3.
George Clooney Helming Football Flick Leatherheads
Variety reported that George Clooney is set to write, direct, and star in the movie Leatherheads. The movie is set in the 20s in the backdrop of the beginning of professional football. It follows the story of an older football player convincing a younger college student to drop out and join the professional leagues.
Brad Pitt Could Replace Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 4
Another very interesting rumor story. Apparently the thought is that since Paramount dropped Tom Cruise, yet they still want to keep the Mission Impossible franchise going, they need to find a replacement for him, which would be Brad Pitt. Further details about this story can be found here.
