September 20, 2006
by Alex Billington
Renaissnace is a fantastic animated film set in futuristic Paris surrounding a story of corruption and mystery. The city's largest company, Avalon, sells an interesting commodity - eternal youth and beauty. One of the young scientists working for them, Ilona Tasuiev (Romola Garai), is suddenly kidnapped. Avalon hires a cop to investigate, Barthélémy Karas (Daniel Craig), who has a reputation for finding anyone. Also getting too involved in solving the case is Ilona's sister Bislane (Catherine McCormack). Both Bislane and Karas embark on a riveting chase to find Ilona and discover the corruption that lies within the streets of Paris.
Renaissance will open to a limited release this Friday, September 22. It is definitely worth seeing, not only for the beautiful animation and visual style, but for the outstanding story and performances. You can read our FirstShowing.net review here.
