Peter Weir Taking On Shadow Divers

November 16, 2006
by Alex Billington

The Hollywood Reporter has posted the announcement about Peter Weir's next film, titled Shadow Divers. Weir, who's previously known for Master and Commander, The Truman Show, and Dead Poets Society, will be directing this film based on Robert Kurson's best-selling book "Shadow Divers: The True Adventure of Two Americans Who Discovered Hitler's Lost Sub."

"Shadow Divers" revolves around two of the world's foremost deep-sea wreck divers who discover a sunken U-boat 60 miles off the coast of New Jersey. Despite considerable danger, the young divers risk their lives in their obsession to identify the submarine over the period of six years.

Weir will be producing for Fox 2000, with an unknown expected start of production or release. Although I'm one of the few, I loved Master and Commander. I think Weir is quite capable, and I'm quite interested in the storyline for this film and we'll see where he can take it.

Peter Weir is by far one of my favorite directors of all time.

He also did the phenomenal movie "Fearless", starring Jeff Bridges as an airplane crash survivor.

What a moving movie- and what an image, of a man standing on the corner of the roof of his high-rise, arms outstretched, screaming and laughing at his excitement just to be Alive…

Never heard anything else about this movie though, and wasn't aware til now that Master & Commander was done by him.

I'll now have that on my list.
