Sin City's Rodriguez Producing Madman Comic Adaptation

December 19, 2006
by Alex Billington

Some new comic adaptation news from Variety today. Dimension Films, partially run by Bob Weinstein, has picked up the comic Madman for a live-action film adaptation. Sin City director Robert Rodriguez will only be producing, as the film will be directed and co-written by George Huang (Swimming with Sharks).

Madman is a post-modernist reimagining of the Frankenstein tale, with a superhero twist. The title character, killed in a car accident, is reanimated by an eccentric doc who names him Frank Einstein and instills in him enhanced senses, psychic power and exceptional physical skills. The doc can't fix his creature's face, so Madman wears a costume modeled after his fave superhero to hide his scars. Apparently the project will follow a template similar to Sin City, whatever that means - hopefully for the better.
