Golden Globes Bringing Theatrical Re-Releases: Babel, Departed, Little Children
December 23, 2006
by Alex Billington

(Wow, all three have nice black posters.)
I've heard from a number of sources, and most recently a close friend who is a general manager at a theater, that some big films will be getting re-releases in early January thanks to the Golden Globes nominations. Although I'm not too fond of the Golden Globes and don't follow them too closely, this is great news to get what truly are the best films of the year back in theaters for everyone to see on the big screen. What I've heard so far is that Babel and The Departed will get a re-release, and the highly acclaimed Little Children that has been stashed away by New Line will finally get a release into indie theaters. There will probably be a few others from the noms as well, but that's as many as I've heard so far.
I loved Little Children and yet have been locked in posting my review until it finally gets released here in Denver, so I'm glad to finally put out my high regards for this film and suggest it to as many as I can! And if you can as well, go see The Departed and Babel again, as I highly suggest both!

I agree with you Little Children is one of the best films of the year, in my opinion the best. Yet the studio has given it a bad run through its release expanding it around 30 theaters or so. It is in the top of many critic's lists, yet the public hasn't really had a chance to see it. This year movies have been more than underwhelming, but Little Children is one of those little movies that come out of nowhere and makes you believe there is still some creative effort being made.

Even though Dreamgirls shows up in (5) separate categories for the Golden Globe awards, I also believe that Eddie Murphy nominated for "Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture" will have real competition from Mark Wahlberg and Jack Nicholson in "The Departed" for the Supporting Roll Poll.

I have written to New Line numerous times about Little Children. Yet they do not write back. I live in Denver and am still awaiting this movie's release. Okay, so maybe Denver just isn't as cool a city as it pretends to be? This just doesn't seem like that minor of a movie. Why hasn't it come here? Surely with all the noms, year end best of list inclusions, it will finally see the light of day???
