Capcom Dives Deeper into Video Game Movies

Per an article on The Hollywood Reporter, Capcom is getting more involved in making films by putting in place a VP of Licensing in Los Angeles who will work closely with Hollywood to get more of their games made into films. Capcom has already helped put out the Resident Evil films and is also currently in development on a Chun Li based Street Fighter film for 2008. In addition, they're considering other franchises such as Devil May Cry, Lost Planet, Dead Rising and Onimusha, of which Devil May Cry and Onimusha already have their rights purchased by production companies. You can read much more about this, but I'll hold off for now until their is official news on any of the films.

Ok, I loves me some Dead Rising. If I've had a crappy day and need to bash some zombies, that's the game I'm turning to. But there's no way this makes a good movie. I liked it when it was called Dawn of the Dead.

Given that the Hollywood Reporter article merely references Dead Rising as a franchise for Capcom and not something they are actively looking to develop for the screen, I don't think we have to worry about it getting made. Perhaps it was just a fishing statement designed to gauge reaction from the on-line crowd, in which case we definitely don't have to worry about it. ^_^ Either way, we in the "responsible" blog community (of which I consider this site to be a part of) need to treat this story for what it really is: speculation.
That being said, I don't think a Dead Rising movie could be made and marketed as anything except a parody of the genre. Having not played the game but being deluged with media from it since it's release, it doesn't look like the game is very serious in regards to even the gaming genre of survival horror. If I am to understand correctly, you get achievement points for "zombie upskirt" photos. I highly doubt a source such as The Hollywood Reporter would see the game beyond its M-Rating, but given the context of what I think the game encompasses, the movie would have to be a comedy. In that case it would be compared to Shaun of the Dead rather than Dawn of the Dead. Either way fans are likely to be highly dubious of it.

ONIMUSHA MOVIE AND OTHER VIDEO GAME MOVIES.
Just to take the ideas out of me,I saw Silent Hill on DVD in Australia and it was good,
I also saw Brotherhood Of The Wolf its good both of movies are done by Christophe Gans and Davis Films and they are also working on another video game movie Onimusha.
The plot will follow up to the first Onimusha game,so it will not focus on time travelling rubbish because its crap.
If Gans does the Onimusha movie the film must follow to the first game like he did with Silent Hill.
I'm not really into Onimusha series I just read the news and talk on comments.
Other video games could go into movies like Megaman which it will be loosey based on the series with time travelling adventure and it will be a PG rated movie,Tim Burton could do a Megaman series,Mortal Kombat Producer Larry Kasanoff could pull Darkstalkers series to live action motion pictures and TV show.
Devil May Cry and Street Fighter will also will be going to movies,Street Fighter will focus on Chun Li
and all the SF characters and there storylines.
