We're in complete support of Borat here, and supportive of definitely going to see it in theaters as soon as you can. Primarily because of how great of a movie it is, and also that you just can't miss seeing it in a theater full of everyone laughing. It's opening weekend was a smashing success, beating out both new family films Santa Clause 3 and Flushed Away. Interestingly, the headline news from a few weeks back stating that Santa Clause 3 is guaranteed to beat Borat, ended up being proven wrong.
According to Box Office Mojo's numbers on this past weekend, Borat drew in $26,375,000, compared to Santa Clause 3 at $20,000,000 and Flushed Away closely behind at $19,100,000. The best part is the comparison of per-theater earnings and the number of theaters for each film. Borat is only in 837 theaters, compared to Santa Clause 3's 3,458. Quite a difference, and yet Borat still took the #1 spot. Borat's earnings were ~$11,000 average per screen, while Santa Clause 3 earned only ~$2,000 average per screen.
Borat is definitely worth seeing and we suggest you catch it as soon as you can!
