Canadians Going to the Movie Theater More Often - Blasphemous!
by Alex Billington
August 30, 2006
An article on Variety reports that movie theater revenue in Canada increased 16.6% between 2003-2004 and 2004-2005. Quite an interesting statistic, given that all the talk (since about 2005) in the United States has been that theater revenue is down, no one is going to the movie theaters, and no one (movie studios or theater chains) is making as much money as they all want.
Another interesting point is that Variety stated that some of the increase was attributed to "a 20.4% rise in drive-in theater" auditoriums, which is another eye-opening, jaw-dropping fact. What exactly is going on in Canada? I want to know what the theaters are doing, or what exactly is happening that is causing this increase in attendance?! Can it really be drive-in theaters or other odd additions like that?
