Ripley's Believe It or Not Film Back in Action!

December 18, 2006

At one point, Paramount had canned the Ripley's Believe It or Not film that was supposed to star Jim Carrey as Ripley and be helmed by director Tim Burton. However, news today has come from Variety stating that Paramount has hired Steve Oedekerk to give the script a work over and rewrite it in order to start production in late 2008. Oedekerk previously wrote Patch Adams, Bruce Almighty (and Evan Almighty), and Barnyard, which all gets me just a bit worried.

I don't think I've ever reported on news that is this far out (it's looking for a 2009 release date), but it is Ripley's Believe It or Not. Both Burton and Carrey are back on and it will wait for Burton as he finishes Sweeney Todd. One of the original reasons it was delayed was because of its enormous budget and shooting in China all with a rough script that still needed rewrites.
