We Have Heeded The Omen
by Alex Billington
June 6, 2006
The Omen was... just good. I'm personally not a huge horror/scary movie fan, but Josh is a big one. The theatre was about 1/4 full... not bad given it was the first morning (11AM) showing on a Tuesday. I'm not 100% sure, but the horror genre just doesn't push the boundaries for releases or making money. They may push it for some filmmaking techniques and special effects, but that's about it.
Although there was some spooky scenes and violence... I was just let down - I wanted more! The kid was the "son of the devil" yet he barely did much killing or destruction at all. Think of Phoenix in X-Men: she can destroy planets. This kid is the son of the devil, why isn't he just wreaking havoc and bring destruction upon the earth! Ok, I give it that it was the "first of three" movies (from the originals) and at the end... well, you have to go see it... but his "plan" is falling in place (I hope that wasn't too big of a spoiler).
The other thing that gets me is when I see a trailer that is just this intense 1-minute-ride with thrilling music and short clips that just "screams" (haha get it) scary all over it. But then I go to see the movie... and the certain scary "what the fuck was that?" parts are all just short clips from a dream that are never even seen in the movie. That is a big "let down" hype. See in Superman and trailers for other movies, we can interpret what is happening. But in scary movies, we can't, and thus we lose that excitement from the trailer. Anyway... enough said. I'm looking forward to Cars on Friday!
