Indiana Jones IV Buzz: Returning May 2008
January 2, 2007
by Alex Billington
This news has been circulating around over the New Years weekend, but apparently some newer details were posted by Variety. Indiana Jones IV, the project that was seemingly doomed, is finally back in full swing thanks to some announcements from George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and Harrison Ford. The first and primarily most important news is that the film is currently eyeing a May 2008 release date, which will put it in contention with Iron Man, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and Speed Racer that summer.
In addition, David Koepp has written the script and it's set to begin filming in June of 2007. Koepp has previously written the screenplay for Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Spider-Man, so it's very good to know that a film of this scale is at least in good hands for the script. Spielberg had this to say:
"We feel that the script was well worth the wait. We hope it delivers everything you'd expect from our history with Indiana Jones," Spielberg said. "George, Harrison and I are all very excited."
The 64-year-old Harrison Ford also commented on returning:
"I'm delighted to be back in business with my old friends. I don't know if the pants still fit, but I know the hat will."
And some of best news still left over from an "Access Hollywood" interview in June, Sean Connery, Indiana's father in the films, will be written into Indy IV, confirmed by George Lucas: "We are writing him in whether he wants to do it or not."
