Live Action Metal Gear Solid Movie Being Adapted by Sony

February 8, 2007
by Alex Billington

The news that a live action Metal Gear Solid movie is in the makings has been around for a while. It is only today that Sony announced, via Variety and GameSpot, that they were the company who is actually producing it. The good news is that the original video game creator Hideo Kojima will be an executive producer on the project, with Sony's Michael De Luca (Ghost Rider, Zathura) as the producer.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Vice Chairman Yair Landau spoke about the movie:

"We're working with the Metal Gear guys," Landau told GameSpot following his D.I.C.E. summit keynote address in Las Vegas. "It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling. But the question is, 'How do you translate Snake's experience into a full arc that conforms to what audiences expect on the large screen?'"

I know this is great news for fans of Metal Gear Solid, especially because I have a lot of faith in Sony Pictures and expect that they'll turn out an entertaining film.

I am hoping they dont turn this into a PG movie so they can cram the theater full of children. With Kojima at the helm fans should expect good things. They could make it based on MSG 4 and do flashbacks of the past series a la Highlander. If they screw this up I am sure whomever is responsible will be mobbed by the fans and will burn in hell for eternity.
