Wahlberg Spills Info on Departed Trilogy

Some buzz about possible sequels to Martin Scorsese's The Departed has been roaming around the internet lately. Given the film is based off of a three part series of Hong Kong based films, Infernal Affairs, the idea is certainly feasible. The most recent tidbit that seems that the possibility is much more likely than we all imagined comes from an Empire Magazine interview with Mark Wahlberg.
Here's what Marky Mark had to say about the films and sequels:
"They're talking about bringing in De Niro to play a senator or a congressman. You know, the corruption obviously going deeper and higher up the ranks - reaching up the political chain. So it'll be fun. And if it's a success, they're gonna do a prequel and bring everyone back-make it a trilogy".
Some thoughts going around are that Scorsese doesn't make sequels, despite The Departed's incredible $130 million domestic box office earnings and Oscar noms. And could this possibly be some rumor that never actually comes about? We're not really sure, but it does sound certainly interesting and very exciting if they do choose to go down that path. We'll be sure to keep you covered on any updates.
