Picturehouse Picks Up The Orphanage in Berlin
February 13, 2007
by Alex Billington
The Orphanage, which was co-produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by first time director J.A. Bayona, was picked up at the Berlin Film Festival for US distribution by Picturehouse. The film is an atmospheric thriller about Laura, who purchases her beloved childhood orphanage with dreams of restoring and reopening the long abandoned facility as a place for disabled children. Unfortunately when she arrives she discovers that an invisible friend takes over her son's mind. Del Toro has said that J.A. Bayona "has captured some very moody and terrifying footage that just blew me away." Sounds like another good foreign horror movie is set to sweep America fairly soon.
