Southland Tales Update - Working on VFX Finances

Southland Tales

Southland Tales - the next feature film project from Donnie Darko writer and director Richard Kelly has been in the works for a while under Sony trying to get ready for its public debut. After being in the dark for a while, Kelly has finally posted an update on the project which sounds like its still got a bit of work to do - as we don't even have a trailer yet.

Kelly mentioned on his official MySpace blog that he is currently trying to finish negotiations for a soundtrack deal for Southland Tales as well as that no release date has been set or a trailer has been made.

His biggest issue currently lies with trying to get more finances for the film to finish some visual effects. I don't imagine it would be anything enormous, but if you think about Donnie Darko, that entire future floating bubble coming from everyone's chest, that kind of thing.

"We are still in the process of getting the budget approved to finish all of the additional visual effects in the final cut. There were many missing and incomplete visual effects in the Cannes version, so expect lots of improvements! Fingers crossed that we get the additional money…"

I'm anxiously awaiting this project and it's a bit distressing to hear that Sony is not only still in limbo on distribution details (or a trailer) and that he's trying to get more money. Does anyone have a whole bunch they can loan to him?!
