Saw IV Now Safe in Director Darren Lynn Bousman's Hands
February 19, 2007
by Alex Billington
For a time everyone was worried that the previously announced Saw IV would bring doom upon the otherwise fantastic Saw franchise, but fortunately that is no longer the case. Fangoria spoke with Leigh Whannell, the father of the Saw franchise along with James Wan, who said that Saw IV would be coming back directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. Bousman directed both Saw II and Saw III, and is certainly familiar with the franchise and the direction of the films. Even better is that Leigh and James will keep a watchful eye over the project as executive producers.
Here is some of what Leigh had to say:
"James [Wan] and I, as executive producers, are still treating it like our baby; we'll still oversee it. I've definitely been privy to the ideas they've had and the scripts they've been writing, and it's coming along well. I'm actually excited."
No confirmation yet as to whether Tobin Bell would return as Jigsaw or anything else on the script or shooting schedule. The film is set to release (as always) on October 26th later this year.

I haven't seen any of these movies. But I thought I heard that the last one would definitely be the last one? Why won't this series just die already!

If they go the whole "This story happened before the events of Saw III" angle, I have a very special joke that I WILL break out.

Wait….how can they bring him back, it's over, the only thing they could be doing with this and the original Jigsaw would be…honestly a pretty cool prequel (WOW, that's rare of me to say O.o) explaining how and why in more depth than the original SAW movie showed, possible showing where he got his start, his idea to cut the jigsaws, possibly when he wasn't so wise a man as he was in I, II and III? Where things would get a bit messier?
With the way the poster looks though, it looks like he's long gone. Maybe this one leads to the husband from SAW III's tests not being over, having to now make it out of the house now that Jigsaw is dead and his wife's head is blown to bits. (Can't quite remember the end of it, too long ago, but I don't remember him making it out just yet.)
