First of Not-So-Many Awards for Children of Men

February 20, 2007
by Alex Billington

We all wish Children of Men would be getting recognized considerably for its achievements, but unfortunately that's not the case. At least the Academy recognized it with 3 nominations, but I'm unsure of if it will win any. However, word comes today that Children of Men did win the top prize at the 21st Annual American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards for 2006, and beat out the likes of The Illusionist, The Good Shepherd, Apocalypto, and The Black Dahlia. Emmanuel Lubezki was honored with the award, and is also nominated for the Oscar for Best Cinematography. After winning this, I have a feeling he may go on to win the Oscar now.

More details on the awards and the rest of the winners can be found over at Movieweb.com.

Children of Men -If you already posted this, I missed it…. Children of Men did receive two BAFTA's this year: Cinematography, Emmanuel Lubezki; and Production and Design, Jim Clay, Geoffrey Kirkland, and Jennifer Williams.

Ah, well then you're right, this is not the first! :) I know I heard a few others… the unfortunate point is that it's not receiving as many as it should, I think. But I believe in the end it will earn at least the Oscar and nearly ever cinematography achievement possible, so at least it got what it certainly deserved in one aspect. Sorry for the mix-up!

I totally agree … "Children of Men" is criminally overlooked.
