Casting Choices on Woody Allen's Next Summer Shoot
February 21, 2007
by Alex Billington
I've gained a lot of respect for Woody Allen, despite his occasional flops, he's a filmmaking genius who's never stopped. Allen is currently completing Cassandra's Dream, another one of his dramas that stars Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell, and Michelle Williams. Following that he'll pick up again with a shoot right away in the summer in Barcelona, Spain for his next untitled project. A script hasn't even been written and all he's done is chosen the cast (thanks to Variety).
Somehow Allen has convinced the gorgeous and talented Penélope Cruz and now Spanish star Javier Bardem (Collateral, The Sea Inside) to join. Given there isn't a script, not too much is known besides that it will shoot in Barcelona and contains English and some Spanish dialogue. Apparently the plot features foreigners in the city and a love entanglement. I've visited Barcelona once, and it's a beautiful city, and I'm hoping that if you combine that with Allen, you'll get a beautiful film, but we have yet to see. I'll definitely be out in theaters to see both this and Cassandra's Dream whenever they may show up, and I hope some others will be there to join me.

I really liked Scoop. I thought it was funny. Oh well.
But yes, you have to give Woody some respect. I am a newer fan of his work and yes he has had flops, but he has been putting out about one movie per year for about 30 years. And he has tried all kinds of things. He must have a lot of ideas. Not all of them have been successful, but he is definitely prolific.
