Alfred Hitchcock Presents… Anthony Hopkins
February 22, 2007
by Alex Billington
From Hollywood Elsewhere comes news of a new drama about Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, and all that he had to go through to get it made back in the late 1950's. The film is set to be directed by Ryan Murphy, of last year's Running with Scissors, and it's rumored that Anthony Hopkins will be playing the legendary director Mr. Hitchcock. Also included in discussions is that Helen Mirren will play his wife and lifelong creative collaborator Alma Reville. The title will be, of course, Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
I'm a bit intrigued at why this is a film project (that may even come to theaters) and not something that will show up on a Saturday afternoon on TNT? I'm sure Hitchcock fans may argue that there may be a lot to this, but is it really possible? Do any Hitchcock fans think that this sounds like it might be good?

Seeing as this isn't an actual remake of a Hitchcock film, I really find this interesting. I have to agree that this is an odd choice for a theatrical release, and the Hitchcock fanboys will be fairly pissed at the choice of title, considering the TV show of the same name is fairly well known. I wouldn't be surprised to see a title change at some point.
Regardless, I'll most likely seek this out to see, considering he's one of my favorite directors of all time.

As a big Hitchcock fan I am very interested to see how this will unfold. I was a little skeptical at first about Hopkins playing Hitchcock but I recently saw a clip of him impersonating him and he did it pretty well and the fact that Helen Mirren may play the wife sounds even better because with these two magnificent actors it will be taking seriously. The title on the other hand needs to change! It gives the wrong message, it doesn't even sound like a movie title (especially the fact that Hitchcock had a show with the same). It should be definitely be changed…pronto!
