Sin City 2 Coming Quick: Miller Says Script Nearly Ready to Go!

Comic book celebrity Frank Miller, who's still making rounds in the news promoting 300 opening in just a few weeks, spoke with Sci Fire Wire and gave them a very positive update on Sin City 2. Miller said that the script is nearly finished and he'd even like to start shooting in Texas at the end of spring. Miller said he and Robert Rodriguez, who's finishing up his Tarantino double-feature Grindhouse, are anxious to get underway on Sin City 2 - a good sign that we maybe won't have to wait as long as we thought.

Miller told them, "the script is largely done, and now we're in that limbo zone where we're casting and making script adjustments as we go." Which is fortunately a good sign, given the latest news was that casting was completely up in the air and we wouldn't see the sequel until 2009. Miller also discussed more of the plot, which will focus on the story titled "A Dame to Kill For" as well as a few others:

The sequel will also deal with "a couple of old stories and one brand-new one," Miller said. "The old ones are a couple of 'Blue Eyes' stories, and there's an 'Old Town Girls' story, and the new one features Nancy Callahan (played by Jessica Alba) in a very different, very scary role. I'm hoping we'll start in late spring. It gets pretty hot in Austin, so there might be a summer's interruption there, but both Robert and I really want to be shooting this thing as soon as possible."

We may be reaching a point of oversaturation in Hollywood with comic book movies, but this is one I'll let slide by because I'm pretty excited. The first Sin City was revolutionary and I can't wait to see what they've got planned for a sequel.

I watched Sin City again last night. This is a movie that has aged well for me. When I saw it in the theatres, I thought that it could have been better. But seeing it a few more times has made me appreciate it more and more. I am excited about the 2nd one and hope we get another sequence as tight as Mickey Rourkes.

I don't understand how Frank Miller manages to have such a following. The man, who is so self absorbed that he makes a sponge look generous, confuses style with excess, substance with chaos. I have gone back and reread some of my old Frank Miller Batman and Daredevil comics, and in rereading them, I return to what I felt the first time—disappointment. I'll give him some credit for infusing both these titles with some grittiness, but overall, Miller is hot air waiting to be let out of a balloon.

Sin City was wearisome. It showed that sometimes a graphic novel, especially one as chaotically constructed by Miller, needs a strong director and writer to help give it a sense of story. A film is not a comic book.

Sin City TWO??? I will not be there. Nor have I plans on seeing his new piece of excess…300
