Oscar Winners Scorsese and Monahan Back Again for The Long Play
February 27, 2007
by Alex Billington
After the incredible success of The Departed at the Oscars on Sunday, including a Best Director win for Martin Scorsese and Best Screenplay win for William Monahan, the two are becoming highly sought after assets in Hollywood. Paramount has put together a project for Scorsese to direct called The Long Play. The film is a rock 'n roll epic and will be rewritten first by William Monahan, teaming the two up yet again for hopefully another incredible movie.
The film follows two friends through 40 years in the music business, from the early days of R&B to contemporary hip-hop, and is being produced by Mick Jagger and his Jagged Films production company. Variety states Monahan is working on this script next, but Scorsese's next plans are still up in the air.
It's interesting to see Paramount going around claiming this as one of Scorsese's next big films, because just last week we were talking about how Scorsese already has a very full slate of projects that he's "supposed" to be directing, and now here's yet another one. Only time will tell what he chooses in the end, and only time will finally show us his next completed movie.
