Wes Craven's World of Horror Continues: More Sequels and Original Script
February 27, 2007
by Alex Billington
Wes Craven, one of the masters of horror, has brought a lot to the genre over the years, including the Scream franchise, the original Hills Have Eyes, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. While out promoting the upcoming Hills Have Eyes 2 remake at the New York Comic-Con, he spoke to Bloody Disgusting about more sequels for Hills Have Eyes and maybe even Scream 4, as well as an original screenplay he's writing.
The most interesting of the news, thankfully not about money-making sequels, is about the original script he'll be working on:
"I'm about to sit down and write an original screenplay for Rogue Pictures; going to lock my self in a room for a while and work on that."
And he also discussed the possibilities of Hills Have Eyes 3 and Scream 4, but nothing confirmed yet:
When asked about the possibility of a Hills Have Eyes 3, he said, "there could be, it all depends on this one. I wouldn't be at all surprised, though, because we think [HHE2] will do really well."
This was followed by a question regarding the likelihood of a Scream 4. Craven replied with, "Actually, I received a call about that for the first time the other day… obviously, I've been asked about that for a long, long time… I think that it's not completely off the table at this point, as far as the studio making it. I was asked if I'd be interested, but I said it would depend on the script. [Scream 4] isn't something that's around the corner or anything, they are now thinking about it." Craven has been quoted for years as saying that Scream 4 would never happen, but it appears that that's changed, at least somewhat.
Quite a bit is underway for Mr. Craven, and it looks like the horror genre is still growing greatly, not only with more sequels but with more original scripts.
