Ben Stiller Directing Tropic Thunder
March 1, 2007
by Alex Billington
In case you haven't already heard previously, Ben Stiller is directing a film, written by Idiocracy writer Etan Cohen, and yes, the title is Tropic Thunder. It's about a disastrous movie shoot for a war movie in which everything that can go wrong does and actors who play commando tough guys must actually become real commandoes in order to save the day. The date has already been set for July 11th, 2008 (the same day as The Mummy 3). Recent news via Cinematical states that Robert Downey Jr and Jay Baruchel have signed on to star along side of Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux.
Downey's role will be Kirk Lazarus, a "four-time Oscar winner," while Baruchel is Kevin Sandusky, an "unknown actor on the set." No indication yet as to exactly how the comic hijinks will unfurl, just some vague plot generalities.
When done right, Robert Downey Jr can be pretty funny, just look at Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. And I know there are countless fans of Zoolander, another film directed by Ben Stiller. Hopefully this won't be as bad as this summer's military comedy Delta Farce.

Sounds interesting. I was wondering when Ben was going to direct again. I loved "The Cable Guy".
