US Comedy Arts Fest Film Jury Award Winners
March 5, 2007
by Alex Billington
For most of you who didn't attend the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, I'm sure didn't care much for it. However, you'll at least want to know the winners, because these will be the ones you'll need to keep an eye out for once they actually get released nationally. 30 feature films were screened at the fest, not a huge amount but a solid number. So without further ado, here are the winners.
Best Feature - Ira & Abby
Best Director - Tom DiCillo, Delirious
Best Screenplay - Taika Waititi, Eagle vs. Shark
Best Actor - Jay Baruchel, I'm Reed Fish
Best Actress - Jennifer Westfeldt, Ira & Abby
Comedy Performance in Film - Wendy McLendon-Covey, Closing Escrow and Cook-Off!
Best Documentary - King of Kong
Best Short - My Wife is Retarded, Director Etan Cohen
Best College Short - High Maintenance, Director Phillip Van
Best Foreign Language - Ice Cream, I Scream
Best Performance in a Foreign Film - Micha Hulshof, Schnitzel Paradise
Cinemax Audience Award Winner - Death at a Funeral
Unlike Sundance, I actually agree with most of these choices. And remarkably I've seen almost all of the major winners except I'm Reed Fish. However, Ira & Abby was fantastic, and I'm also glad Death at a Funeral won for the audience, because that was my choice for best film there. Make it a priority to check ALL of these winners out as soon as they get released - it will be well worth it.
