Bryan Singer Thriller Greenlit - Similarities with Usual Suspects
March 14, 2007
by Alex Billington
For any of you who are fans of Bryan Singer's 1995 movie The Usual Suspects, this news may really interest you. The newly refurbished Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner-run United Artists have greenlit an original thriller that Superman Returns director Bryan Singer will direct. Currently untitled, the film is set in WWII and is similar to Usual Suspects in that it is a multi-character ensemble piece. Another similarity is that screenwriter Chris McQuarrie will be working with Bryan Singer again as the writer - just as the two were on The Usual Suspects. However, this brings up the pressing question about the Superman Returns sequel that Singer is also supposed to be working on for sometime in 2009.
The film is already set to go into production this summer, given that Wagner and Cruise agreed to finance it almost immediately after he brought it to them. Although this sounds great, the issue is that it puts a Superman Returns sequel on hold, as brought up by SlashFilm. I'm all for great directors taking on multiple projects, and don't mind if a much-needed sequel gets a bit delayed, so let's hope this all works out smoothly. I just don't want to see either project fall apart. And more importantly, I'd love to see what these two will come up with again given how unique Usual Suspects was.

I thought that Bryan Singer was doing a Logan's Run remake.
