Michael Bay Taking on the 2012 Apocalypse

I thought this was all just a shaky rumor, but alas, I was wrong. Variety has confirmed the report that after blowing up a whole bunch in Transformers this summer, Michael Bay and friends will soon be working on 2012: The War for Souls, a very far away movie. Joining bay are writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who are currently working on the script for Star Trek XI. The book, written by Whitley Strieber, doesn't even come out until September 18th this year. The story follows an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to stop an apocalypse foreseen by the ancient Mayans.
The only official confirmation is that Warner Brothers did secure the rights, but Bay and his writers are still "in talks", as always, but that means they're likely to eventually be signed on more than backed out. The whole year 2012 apocalypse thing has been around for a while, well, since the Mayans, and means that this could become a pretty immense movie if they do it right.

If you want some backround on the concept of the Mayan calendar that is the basis of Micheal Bay's new "2012" movie then you can check out:

It explains a little about the whole doomsday theory.
Its pretty cool actually.
