David Gordon Green Signs Grisham Deal and Snow Angels to Warner Indie

My honest-to-goodness favorite independent distributor in the market now is Warner Independent Pictures, just something about the people in it and the quality of films they distribute. They already picked up one of my Sundance favorites, Clubland, at the festival, and now they've grabbed another one of my Sundance faves - Snow Angels. Although the film is incredibly tragic and borders on complete depression, it's a phenomenal film and I'm glad that it didn't go overlooked. The only problem is that it's being pushed all the way out to sometime "next year," probably lining up closer with a new film that director/writer David Gordon Green is going to make specifically for Warner Independent - a John Grisham adaptation.
In the dual agreement with Warner Independent, he'll also be writing and directing a drama based on John Grisham's non-fiction book The Innocent Man. The book tells the true story of Ron Williamson, a man wrongly convicted of murder who spent more than 10 years on death row in Oklahoma. Gordon Green also is set to direct a comedy with both Seth Rogen and James Franco called The Pineapple Express, about a pair of toking buddies who get mixed up with a drug gang.
Although it's a very long way out, make sure you don't forget Snow Angels. It really is an amazing film, nothing shy of brilliant, and I don't want it to be lost in the mix of independent movies. Although it's tragic and dark, it's the performances and the story that hit hardest.
