Speed Racer Updates: Rated G?! and Hirsch Talks
March 24, 2007
by Alex Billington
As I've said previously, I'm really looking forward to Speed Racer myself, despite a large number of people's dislike for The Wachowski Brothers. A whole bunch of news is hitting the web this weekend because legendary producer Joel Silver is being drilled for all he's got while he's out promoting The Reaping. The first and most important - Speed Racer is going to be rated G! Silver said that The Wachowski's really wanted to make a Frank Capra-like family film out of Speed Racer that would certainly be rated G. Both Collider and IESB have great quotes from Silver, so read on.
In addition, Warner Brothers put out a video of Emile Hirsch's reaction to being cast as the lead in the film.
Hirsch calls Speed Racer "Blade Runner meets Andy Warhol meets pop art." Honestly, I won't deny that I am incredibly excited to see the completely new envisioning of Speed Racer and just how this entire CGI footage will turn out. I expect nothing less than groundbreaking from The Wachowski's.
