Another Remake: 1971's Straw Dogs

Remakes are aplenty in this day and age, but like Eli Roth said, you can appreciate some of them. The newest is a remake the 1971 thriller Straw Dogs, directed by Sam Peckinpah, starring Dustin Hoffman about a young American and his English wife who move to rural England and face increasingly vicious local harassment. The Sony studio Screen Gems is acquiring the rights to remake it with The Contender director Rod Lurie set to direct and "The Shield" writer Reed Steiner doing the writing. I have no clue why, but remake will apparently take place in the US instead of England, but the remainder of the plot changes is still unknown. Let's hope this doesn't turn into a bland and unnecessary horror-thriller remake.

This is a good movie. It was mentioned a few years ago that a remake of it was being done with Edward Norton starring. If that still happens with him then that would be incredible. That's also one of my favorite movie posters.

I agree with Zach.
If it's done well, this could be great. Ed Norton would be fantastic (as always). I'm not too sure about Lurie. . . his credits doesn't show much of a strong background. . . and I've never liked the writing in the couple of episodes of The Shield I've seen.
