Marky Mark Says No Departed Sequel

Rolling off of his Oscar success, there was talk with Martin Scorsese for a while that he'd be doing about 20 movies in the next 5 years, one of which was supposed to be a sequel to The Departed. Obviously not everything he'd been rumored to be involved with would actually take place, and it seems one of those is The Departed sequel. Mark Wahlberg, for those of you who've seen it has a very important role at the end, chimed in with a rather harsh statement on the possibility of the sequel.

From Dark Horizons comes this quote:

"Until I'm actually on the set it's not happening. It's about as confirmed as the Italian Job sequel, The Brazilian Job. Until we can make it better than the first one it's not worth discussing."

He adds "I've never done a sequel before, there's only a couple I can think of that were as good as the first ones - The Godfather."

Maybe it could happen, but it seems like Mark isn't pushing very strong for it. This isn't a straight "no" from Wahlberg, but it's got a lot to go through if he'll be involved with it. However he does make a good point - sequels are rarely better than the originals.

Don't they have to wait for the sequel to Infernal Affairs to come out in Hong Kong first before they can rip it off? Sorry I mean "inspired".

My apologies if there is indeed a sequel to Infernal Affairs.

Good point actually about Infernal Affairs. But oddly, The Weinstein Company I think bought the American DVD rights and they came out a while ago, all 3 of them. There is a collection you can buy of all 3 of them somewhere. I know it was recent… so they are already here.

Uhh, I believe that there's at least 3 or 4 sequels to Internal Affairs. Let the western style remakes begin!

Hey smart guys, if you'd watched both you'd see they ended differently so sequels couldn't mimic the original asian flicks.
