Edgar Wright Fishing for Jack Black in His Next - Them

Edgar Wright, the mastermind director behind Shaun of the Dead and the upcoming Hot Fuzz, has another comedy horror movie in the works called Them. The other comedic mastermind Mike White, who wrote the scripts for the likes of Orange County, School of Rock, and Nacho Libre and also has a film he wrote and directed called Year of the Dog coming out this month, is working on the script with Edgar. The current early buzz is that Edgar is trying to get the one-and-only Jack Black to star in it as well.
This news of the writer-director collaboration with White and Wright (almost a tongue twister) and Jack Black's interest came courtesy of SlashFilm, who originally got the scoop in an interview with Mike White:
"I'm writing a script with [Edgar] now. It's like a conspiracy theory comedy horror movie. It's a little bit out of my wheel house and a little bit more in his wheel house. I loved Shaun of the Dead and we talked about writing something together, so once our movies are finally out there and put to bed, we're going to get together and hopefully bang it out."
"This thing with Edgar may very well involve Jack [Black]. Yeah, I would like to keep doing stuff with Jack, he's a good friend of mine."
SlashFilm also had the chance to ask Wright about Jack Black's involvement:
"It's early days, but I'm sure if it happens, Jack will be involved."
"It's based on the Jon Ronson book," explained Wright. "I'm not sure if you've read the book but it's a nonfiction extremists and wild conspiracy theories. And the idea is to set the film in a world where some of these things exist."
When you think of Edgar Wright you can't help but think of his two good friends and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Extending the research into this project, SlashFilm also asked the comedic Pegg and Frost about their thoughts on Jack Black's possible involvement.
"If he's going to bring his bitches, you should bring yours," Simon Pegg commented to Wright. Nick Frost added, "Jack and I will wrestle and we'll see who wins."
For the rest of the full interview and all of the details on the project, just hit SlashFilm. Although Hot Fuzz isn't out in the US yet, I loved it (not as much as Shaun of the Dead) and have endless confidence in Edgar Wright. Seeing these two comedic greats come together means we're guaranteed nothing but brilliance.
