Here Comes The Metal Men

Warner Brothers is rolling out the carpet for more and more comic book adaptations, the latest being the 1962 DC Comics set of heroes named Metal Men. Lauren Shuler Donner, who was one of the strong supporting producers on the X-Men films and Constantine, is the one pushing this film along, too. Eric Champnella (Mr. 3000) is set to write but no director has been announced as of yet. The biggest question is if Warner Brothers can keep snapping up all of these comic books and put out so many of them without watering down the genre.
The comic was written Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru and originally appeared in DC's "Showcase."
The story of the Metal Men focuses on a brilliant scientist, William Magnus, and his six highly advanced robots who have powers associated with their respective metals - gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury and platinum. Instead of having to be programmed, the Metal Men can think for themselves, which is both their genius and their biggest flaw. The heroes are a dysfunctional family, with the stories balancing sentimentality, humor and action - hopefully not fodder for the same combination that they put into Fantastic Four.
In this day and age, not every comic book movie adaptation will turn out great, but the story surrounding this sounds like it will deliver some promising material.
