Introducing Our Newest Writer: Jaq
April 5, 2007
by Jaq Greenspon
Today we introduce our newest writer Jaq Greenspon to our lil' community here at FS.net, and give you a brief introduction to just a bit about who he is.
Jaq has been in love with movies since he was six when he got the neighborhood kids together and, with his father's Super-8, made a revisionist version of Bambi where the hunter gets killed in the end. On a more professional note, he spent 16 years working in Hollywood trying to make the dream come alive. He is the author of three books about the entertainment industry, including the popular career guidebook, Careers for Film Buffs.
Jaq is going to be writing film reviews for us, among other editorials, so watch for his work. In a film he looks for story above all and has a fascination for ideas involving the meaning of reality. Seriously - look at his top ten list (below). More than half of them question the nature of truth. When he's not writing himself, he's teaching writing to others as an instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he also currently resides. His students love him (or so he claims).
Jaq's Top 10 All Time Favorite Films:
1) The Stuntman
2) Raiders of the Lost Ark
3) Empire Strikes Back
4) Pan's Labyrinth
5) Slap Shot
6) Silverado
7) Them
The Day the Earth Stood Still
9) Blade Runner
10) The Court Jester
Favorite Directors: Cameron Crowe / Robert Wise
Favorite Actors: Paul Giamatti / Peter O'Toole
Favorite Actresses: Katherine Hepburn / Natalie Portman
If you want to wish him a welcome, then drop off an e-mail in his inbox - jaq@firstshowing.net. Otherwise look for his reviews starting this evening with The Hoax and Grindhouse and many more to come!
