David Arquette's Braveheart Epic is in the Works
April 13, 2007
by Alex Billington
One of the Scream series regular stars and all-around popular celebrity, David Arquette, chatted with us on the phone yesterday about his upcoming psychedelic horror movie The Tripper which comes out on April 20th. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm really looking forward to it (and you can catch the trailer here). During the interview he gave us some exclusive details on his next project that he's written and will direct, a Braveheart-like epic. He mentioned how troublesome it was to get financing for The Tripper, given he's still an independent filmmaker, and I can only hope people see the possibilities in this project, too.
We asked if he would jump back into directing anytime soon.
"Yea definitely, I'm writing something right now with a friend of mine, and I plan on directing that. It's more of a Braveheart type of world, where there's still violence, but it's a great story and hopefully people will dig it."
We asked a bit more to get a clear idea on what he meant, and David clarified, even mentioning a shot they wrote that 300 already used.
"More in the tone of a Braveheart, with epic battles, that sort of film… Well we already wrote it… we wrote this swirling axe shot, but actually when 300 came out they did the shot that we wrote. Which was a little discouraging, but then also one thing that can happen is that it always tells you you're on the right track, you know."
Our full interview with David will be posted very soon, so keep watch. The guys over at Cinema Blend also had the chance to ask David about the project, too, and he added a bit more:
It's about love, but it has a violent element the way Braveheart did.
If I had the money myself, I would definitely fund this, but unfortunately it's the big Hollywood execs who aren't so sure of what David's capable of and won't be so supportive. Let's hope it comes together, as I'm hoping for something just as awesome as 300 but from the funky mind of David Arquette!
