Luc Besson Almost Promises a Sci Fi Trilogy?!

Our friends over at Collider.com had had the chance recently to update the news going around that Fifth Element director Luc Besson may return to filmmaking sometime in the future with more science fiction, since his next project is the sequel to Arthur and the Invisibles. Back in March the news originally came up, with Besson stating he may one day return to science fiction given the tools necessary to create it are a lot more accessible today (than they were back when he did Fifth Element).

From the interview over at Collider:

"I'm going to try to do it again. I'm going to try and do a trilogy."

Collider asks, Is that something that's in your brain now?

"Yeah. Not before two or three years. I got an idea I think."

He went on to say that the 5th Element was originally going to be a trilogy but his producer "didn't have the guts". He also talks about the huge hurdles he had to overcome to make the film and that if he'd waited about a year to make the movie it would've been tremendously easier.

I'm really hoping this comes together and he makes even at least one new sci fi movie. And it sounds like its actually moving along positively, given he said back in March he would do another one if he had an idea, and now he is actually saying he thinks he said an idea. To read more, check out the article from March, which has a lot about his considerations on filmmaking, as well as more of the interview over at Collider.com.
