To See This Week: Hot Fuzz and The Tripper!
April 23, 2007
by Alex Billington
This upcoming week and weekend is the last chance we'll have to emphasize and the last chance you'll have to see a couple of movies before we're swept into the summer with the powerhouse that Spider-Man 3 will be. Hot Fuzz opened in the US to a measly $5.8 million. Although it took the weekend by being the biggest per-theater earner (which is what distributor Focus Features was going for), if it doesn't pick up speed in the next few weeks it doesn't have a chance earning what it deserves by the time Spider-Man 3 hits on May 4th.

If you haven't already and have a theater nearby, go see both Hot Fuzz and The Tripper in the next two weeks before Spider-Man 3!
HOT FUZZ (Read Our Review)
From the guys that brought us Shaun of the Dead, the comedic trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost team up again to spoof all your favorite police action movies, from Bad Boys II to Point Break. This time a better-than-everyone-else cop is transferred to the small rural town of Sandford and discovers a murderer in their midst and must take care of him on his own.
Not only does this film need as much support as possible, but it's frickin' HILARIOUS! I haven't heard from anyone anywhere who didn't love this movie after they saw it! You may not consider it better than Shaun of the Dead, but either way it's definitely worth your time, your money, and your endless dedication! I can't do enough to keep suggesting you catch this movie, even more than once! If you've already seen it, go take your friends and your family and everyone and go see it again. You won't have a great time unless you see it in the theater with everyone else who's ready for a great time.
THE TRIPPER
From David Arquette in his directorial debut, The Tripper is a trippy slasher film about a psychedelic weekend at a hippie music fest in a redwood-filled forest up in the mountains. A crazed killer who wears a Ronald Reagan mask starts slashing up a number of the attendees and comedy and mayhem ensue.
Although not the greatest horror film or comedy around, it's the idea of supporting a vastly better-than-the-average independent feature film from a first time director but big time celebrity. It's worth seeing just to say you saw it and just to take in what is a refreshing original creation, something which we're seeing less and less of in this movie industry. I had the chance to catch it in the very limited number of theaters it's playing in (see above for the list) and I can tell you it's worth seeing at least once.
Both of these great movies need your support. You've still got just under two weeks before you really need to start getting excited for Spider-Man 3 and the summer to come, and so in those remaining 10 days, make an effort to go see Hot Fuzz and The Tripper (more then once if you have to). It's helping improve our movie industry and will help us get more movies that you will like in the future made and distributed as well.
