Crank Sequel, Not a Prequel, Confirmed

Is Chev Chelios still alive? The news has been out since early March about a Crank sequel, but an extra bit of confirmation has arrived, which also confirms that it's specifically a sequel, not a prequel. Thanks to the guys at The Movie Blog, they spoke briefly with Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine, the writers and directors of Crank, and got a good bit of Crank sequel talk out of them.
"There will be a sequel to Crank yes. Prepare to Crank again. And you know the 'is it a sequel or prequel' question… IT'S A SEQUEL. We're not selling out and going prequel. We are picking up where the last movie left off."
Everyone else has been speculating what exactly that means, and I'll say either one of two things. First, Chev is still breathing (those damn drugs are potent), or second, they're going to go after his girlfriend or someone else down the line and it won't star Jason Statham. Either way, I'm all for it. I loved the first movie, it was an adrenaline fueled fun film, and I can't wait to see how far they'll take it next. No word on a production start or planned release, although I feel it's aiming for 2008.

[...] - Last year’s overdosed videogame-turn-movie flick Crank is getting a sequel. If you’ve seen the first, you’re probably scratching your heads over the announcement. I thought the first film, while at times striking and enjoyable, reeked of MTV-generation A.D.D. direction and silliness. The film was, in a word, ridiculous. [...]

Omfg.. you cant be serious. Jason Stathams' character is dead and you want to continue the Bullsh*t?
Lemme see if I understand your 2 dimensional thinking, create a movie based on drug overdose, driven by adrenaline, with a storyline of a low-grade porn flick, add lotsa T n' A, gunfire and a dramatic ending where the main character dies. (Rinse and repeat.)
For the love of all things created original, lets this movie rest in peace.
