Darren Aronofsky's Biblical Epic is Noah!

Forget Evan Almighty, there's a better Noah's Ark story coming up! Last year while promoting his amazing film The Fountain, the visionary independent director Darren Aronofsky revealed that his next project would be a biblical epic, but not more specific details were discovered. Finally the truth comes out, and Mr. Aronofsky himself will be writing and directing screenplay based upon Noah, and maybe his ark.
The news comes from The Guardian, who spoke with Aronofsky quite a bit about the project, which as of now is only as far as in screenplay format. Speaking on the specifics:
The script, Aronofsky tells me, is no conventional biblical epic. "Noah was the first person to plant vineyards and drink wine and get drunk," he says admiringly. "It's there in the Bible - it was one of the first things he did when he reached land. There was some real survivor's guilt going on there. He's a dark, complicated character."
Sounds rather interesting, and sounds like it'll be a step out of the typical box of biblical epics that you think of and the way the story will be told, beyond just visually. Darren's fascination with Noah has been around for quite some time.
Aronofsky and Noah go way back. When the writer-director was 13, he won a United Nations competition at his school in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn; it was for his first poem, a little effort about the end of the world as seen through Noah's eyes. "That story has interested me ever since," he says, squinting through his yellow-tinted shades and pulling a striped woolly hat on to his head.
If you're a big Aronofsky fan or just want to read more about the project, then hop on over to The Guardian, it's a good read and a very thorough article. In the meantime, I'll be frantically waiting the DVD release of The Fountain and the very next moment that Darren gets back behind the camera to make another phenomenal movie.

Hopefully it won't be anything like The Fountain. Then it might actually be good!
