Young X-Men Spin-Off Updates from Zak Penn

One of the most vocal screenwriters in Hollywood these days is Zak Penn, who recently spoke with Cinematical while promoting a new film of his that debuted at Tribeca called The Grand. Among some of what he discussed was his involvement in the Young X-Men spin-off, that will still take some time to actually come together. As with the other spin-offs, it sounds like they've found a good filmmaker to take it under his wing, and Zak had some interesting things to say in regards to where the film may head.
Zak started off the X-Men discussion with:
"I had been attached to direct one of the [X-Men] spin-offs; in fact, I'm in discussions about that now," said Penn. "The original idea was to have me do a young X-Men spin-off, a spin-off of the young X-Men characters. But someone came up with a pretty interesting idea which I can't discuss. I was pretty taken by it, as was the studio. I have to give him credit, it was this guy who worked with me named Mike Chamoy - he worked a lot with me on X3. He came up with how to do a young X-Men movie which is not what you'd expect."
So when asked what to expect, he added:
"We'll see; I still have to talk to Fox, set the story down - and then it will take a year - maybe two years - to get together. Put it this way, if you agree to do one of the X-Men movies, it could end up happening four or five years down the line."
I believe the timeline of the X-Men spin-offs will start off with Wolverine arriving first, followed by Magneto, and then eventually when Zak pulls everything together, the Young X-Men movie. For now I'm interested in all three of these, and I can at least say they've chosen better directors for each instead of Brett Ratner, the director who did the final X-Men film last year.
