Chris Smith Making a Psychological Horror on the Bermuda Triangle

This idea sounds awesome, but sadly I am guessing it probably won't be seen by many. Chris Smith, who directed the horror comedy independent film Severance, which has been making its way around the festival circuit finally arriving in theaters this summer on May 18th, spoke to ShockTillYouDrop.com about another one of his upcoming projects. Titled Triangle, it's a psychological horror film set on an ocean liner, that makes its way to the Bermuda Triangle. But the best is yet to come.

Smith says, "Weirdly, it's a movie that will play in time loops, like a character getting stuck in a glitch. That's what the Bermuda Triangle is and this character has to combat her way back. It's a slick idea that I will get bang-on right." And he emphasizes that it's no small project, despite (as far as I know) being produced independently. "It has taken me four years to write it and it's a movie that's a major step up in terms of budget," he says. "How it has to be handled is in a very sophisticated way."
Does this not sound cool?! Just thinking about a movie that involves glitches and characters getting stuck in time loops, and the twists and turns we'll see. This just sounds awesome, and I can only bet it will turn out visually even better! I had to mention this so early on because it deserves some early hype for being just a perfect idea that I hope he can pull off. I haven't seen Severance myself yet, or his other horror film Creep, so I can't exactly judge his filmmaking - has anyone else seen either of them?

Creep was an average horror movie, with an interesting premise but not very well executed. Severence, on the other hand, was very well made. It's got the perfect balance of laughs and scares that some movies get so very wrong, but Smith manages to balance them very well, in my opinion. It's been out on DVD here in the UK for a while now, but i'd highly recommend it to anyone across the pond when it comes out.

I saw Severence a few weeks back at our local film festival. It was certainly better than I had anticipated for a horror movie. I would definately recommend seeing it. I'd give it a 7/10 and I'll definately be checking out this "Triangle" movie because of the quality of Severence.
