Nic Cage is Al Capone in Untouchables Prequel

Remember that great 1987 mafia movie The Untouchables that won Sean Connery an Oscar and brought the great performances of Kevin Costner and Robert De Niro to light, as well as a wonderful score from Ennio Morricone? Sticking with the Hollywood trend of sequels (and prequels) these days, they're bringing it back from the dead and making a prequel tentatively titled The Untouchables: Capone Rising, and they've already got their star - Nic Cage. Cage will play Al Capone, the role that Robert De Niro played in the original, but no other major roles have been cast yet. And on top of Cage, it's confirmed that Brian De Palma, who directed the original, will be back again to direct this one.
The news comes from MTV, which states that it will go into production in October, which means I'm guessing it will shoot for a late summer opening in 2008. The film will revolve around the early dealings between Capone and Irish cop Jimmy Malone, which was Connery's role in the original. After just watching The Untouchables a few months ago, I'm pretty excited to see this return and hope De Palma can "wow" us yet again.

Please, not Nicolas Cage.
I find him so one dimensional. His pitch of voice changes fuck all and I just cannot see him taking the part of Capone as serious as any of the cast of the Untouchables would like.
Bad choice if you ask me. Bad choice trying to make a prequel too. We all know its just for the money!

I wouldn't put Nic Cage and Robert Dinero in the same sentance! I can't stand Nic Cage and can't even begin to believe that he's actually doing this! It will completely ruin the first movie for me.
I definitly agree. This movie should not be made, and if it has to, Cage should DEFINITELY not be cast!!!

Horrible casting choice! Also, focusing too much on the villain is one of the rules mentioned on this site on how to ruin a franchise. Enter "The Untouchables: Capone Rising"… Why is it called The Untouchables anyways? If this movie is going to be about Al Capone, when do the The Untouchables come in? I so hate prequels!!!
