Just 48 hours ago we posted the news that Frank Miller's adaptation of Will Eisner's comic The Spirit was picked up by Lionsgate for distribution. Following that today is a slice of news from Hollywood Reporter that states Samuel Jackson is in negotiations to star as The Spirit's nemesis and the mysterious supervillain The Octopus. Besides voicing Frozone in The Incredibles, this is the second time Jackson will play a comic villain, the first being Unbreakable.
The Octopus, a meek lab assistant who reinvents himself as a psychotic nightmare that kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face, plans to wipe out Central City, and it's up to The Spirit to stop him. The character never showed his face in the comics but was always only identified by his distinctive gloves with three stripes. Reminds me a bit of V in V for Vendetta who never showed his face, and if anyone can pull of a performance as amazing as Hugo Weaving, it might be Sam Jackson.
For those who will be attending or at least following our coverage, the question remains, will we see Sam Jackson in San Diego for Comic-Con again this July?
