Worth Watching - May 21: The Golden Compass Teaser
May 21, 2007
by Alex Billington
The first teaser trailer for the upcoming film His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass that's being called the "next Lord of the Rings" has hit the internet. It doesn't actually look half bad, the effects are looking great, let's just hope it holds up to all that marketing and those claims by the studio. It's based on a series of novels in the His Dark Materials trilogy, which means they've got all the rest of the books to finish it off. Check out the new teaser in high definition as well and see for yourself if it could be the next Lord of the Rings.

The Golden Compass was directed by Chris Weitz and stars Daniel Craig, aka James Bond, Nicole Kidman, and Eva Green, aka James Bond's ex-lover. It hits theaters at the end of the year on December 7th!

Was the LOTR comparison at the beginning really necessary?

I meant in the trailer. It just felt kinda tacky.

Yeah, the reference to the LOTR is definitely unnecessary and forced, but the trailer still looks pretty kick ass! Let's hope the story and the full length film can hold up to the expectations that this trailer sets…

Curious to see how the Dæmon: DEE-mon [ˈdiËmÉ™n] (pronounced as "demon") thing will affect this movie, if at all. There was something about the overall look that I didn't like. Hoping for a solid story.
