Spielberg's On The Lot Debuts Tonight on Fox - Vote for Marty M!
May 22, 2007
by Alex Billington
The first and only time you'll ever hear us mention the word "television" anywhere on this website is this one time to let you know of a new reality TV series that debuts tonight (Tuesday, May 22) on Fox called On The Lot! Normally I hate reality TV, but this time I make an exception, because it's a show created by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett and is about aspiring filmmakers. The show is trying to find the next great filmmaker by taking them to LA where they'll make a film that will be judged by a panel of filmmaker and actor celebrities.
The way it works is after weeding out 50 semi-finalists from 12,000 video submissions, each of these semi-finalists' video entries will be shown in a premiere tonight on Fox (Tuesday, May 22) at 9PM EST and another on Thursday, May 24 at 9:30PM EST. From there all 50 will go through a Hollywood "pitch" meeting and be evaluated by Carrie Fisher, Brett Ratner, Garry Marshall, and Jon Avnet and be narrowed down to 18 finalist. The 18 finalists will then go on to compete in more various Hollywood filmmaking competitions and other brutality you'll only see on reality TV shows. Then the special two-hour "Film Premiere" episode will air on Monday, May 28 at 8PM EST with a "Box Office" results episode following on Tuesday, May 29 at 8PM EST. The regular schedule will continue all summer every Monday and Tuesday at 8PM.
If you watch it, vote for Marty M! He's a friend of ours and an avid First Showing reader since the very beginning. I'm curious to see everyone's work on the show, but put some extra emphasis on our friend Marty and get him into the finals!
The full list of semi-finalists can be found here, as well as more info about the show. If you catch it tonight, drop by and let us know what you think, as this will be the only and last time we'll ever talk about TV.
