Eli Roth's Hostel: Part II Interviews Galore

As we start to really hit the summer movie season full on, one film coming up this weekend is getting quite a bit of buzz, both good and bad. Eli Roth's Hostel: Part II is being regard as one of the most disgraceful and disgusting films of the year, while also earning some respect from a few film aficionados and critics as a well-made sequel in a torture horror series. Although I personally didn't get the chance to interview writer and director Eli Roth this time (but you can listen to a great interview with him back during Grindhouse), many other websites on the internet have been hosting interviews with him and if you're interested in Hostel or want to hear more of Eli's brilliant ramblings, then read on!

From Cinematical: "I honestly think that no matter what other movie comes out this summer — no matter what their budget is — nothing will even come close to the kind of ending we have in Hostel: Part II. I think it's one of the most shocking endings people have ever seen in a mainstream horror film. I think this is the movie where people are going to come out of it going, 'I can't even believe someone just did that.' "

From 411mania.com: "I think that the term 'torture porn' says more about the critic than it does about the movie. I think it speaks volumes about a critics' limited capacity to understand what a horror movie can be. It shows how narrow-minded they are and what kind of eyes they watch the movie through," says Eli Roth. "Someone told me in Chicago last night that they sat next to Richard Roeper during the screening of Cabin Fever, and he was jumping, screaming, squealing, and going crazy during the whole movie. He then trashed it in his review. I think that's just how it is with a lot of these critics. They almost feel guilty giving it a positive review. I think the term is absurd. I also feel like a lot of movies that come out are just violence for the sake of violence. I think it's too bad when you get lumped in with them."

Eli Roth has a very good point about some critics feeling guilty about giving certain films good reviews because of what it may do to their image (as critics).
