Spike Lee to Shoot World War II Drama

One of the great directors of our time, Spike Lee, has a couple of films in the works, including an Inside Man sequel as well as a James Brown biopic. Another one to throw on that list is a new World War II drama based on the novel "Miracle at St. Anna" by James McBride. The film is a big-budget project that will be set and shot in Italy in the mountains of Tuscany and is about black American soldiers fighting the German army.
The film is a true tale of four members of the US Army's 92nd division of all-black soldiers, who in 1944 became trapped in a Tuscan village, as they contended with their racist, incompetent commanders and the Nazis. Spike Lee will begin shooting it next year at Tuscan WWII combat locations. The film will be a big-budget project and feature mostly an American cast.
Spike Lee, who's not only a great director in general but the perfect choice to take on this project, will have an interesting film on his hands, as I don't think he's ever done something in the WWII realm. As with most directors who take on WWII they usually put together incredible films that touch on their respective styles, and I'm interested to see what Spike Lee can do in that time period as well.

I hope that their "racist, incompetent commanders" doesn't include 1st Lt John R. Fox, or 1st Lt Vernon J. Baker who were awarded (belatedly) the Congressional Medal of Honor for their actions in combat in Italy during WWII.
