Zack Snyder Updates Watchmen Rumors
June 9, 2007

Although Zack Snyder's feature film adaptation of Watchmen wasn't on the Comic-Con list for July (which will be explained in this article later), Snyder did speak recently with MTV and provided an update and somewhat of a confirmation on the casting rumors posted in May. The film is one of the most hyped upcoming comic book adaptations (that has yet to begin filming), both because of Zack Snyder's success with 300 as well as the fact that Watchmen is regarded as one of (if not the) greatest comic book ever published.
Back in late May, AICN revealed that Patrick Wilson, Jude Law, and Keanu Reeves might be cast as Night Owl, Ozymandias, and Dr. Manhattan respectively. At the time that was just a rumor, but the guys at MTV inquired with director Zack Snyder about whether these might be true or not. His response is below.
"Um - you know what? I would say 'No,' but then you'd call me later and go like, 'Dude, what are you doing?' " Snyder laughed. "I don't know who's leaking this stuff, but they're good."
Sounds fairly confirmed to me, or maybe he's just toying with our minds. Snyder also confirms that they'll begin shooting in Canada starting in September, which clears up the Comic-Con confusion. Although Comic-Con is the one place this film needs to be, they won't have anything ready by July and I presume it would be best to hold off until next year's Comic-Con where they can do a big push. This is the exact same strategy as 300, which filmed in late September/October of 2005, premiered with a trailer at Comic-Con in July 2006, and came out in theaters in March of 2007.
You can read the full interview with Zack Snyder over at MTV. As we've mentioned before, we'll certainly keep you updated on all the latest details regarding Watchmen, including any news that leaks out at Comic-Con 2007 in July.
