Twisted Pictures Joins with RKO Pictures to Remake 4 Horror Classics

The production company Twisted Pictures, best known as the guys who've brought us the Saw series (currently up to Saw IV) as well as Dead Silence, has just joined with RKO Pictures (which stands for Radio-Keith-Orpheum) to remake four old horror classics from RKO's vault. So far they're planning to remake Jacques Tourneur's I Walked With a Zombie, Bedlam, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers yet again (for the seventh time), with a fourth title not yet chosen. It's not that they're all out of original ideas, it's that they can really boost their production schedule with a couple of good remakes in addition to strong original projects in between.
RKO Pictures chairman-CEO Ted Hartley stated, "These guys are very good at making scary pictures, and partnering like this is a great way for us to maximize the use of the RKO library and grow our company." Each of the movies will get a budget between $10 and $20 million, the same level of funding as all of the Saw sequels have received. No further information or production start dates have been set, but it's likely we'll see most of these hit before 2010.
It's interesting to note that Fido director Andrew Currie mentioned in our interview that Jacques Tourneur's I Walked With a Zombie is one of the zombie films he loves and was an inspiration for Fido. And of course The Invasion is already another Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake hitting this August with Daniel Craig. However, Twisted Pictures may be one of the few companies that I'd like to see remake some of these classic horror films, but that all depends on what you thought of the Saw films or Dead Silence.
