The Host Getting a Sequel!

Back in March a phenomenal independent monster movie titled The Host finally hit theaters coming all the way from Korea. For those of you that saw it - you should be glad you caught one of the best movies of the year. For those of you that didn't - you missed a chance to see one of the greatest movies of the year in theaters, but you can certainly pick it up once it's on DVD. The good news today - they're making a sequel. Given the current trend (of almost all the sequels this year being fairly bad), I'd initially be worried, but with The Host, this may be the greatest thing to ever happen to it.
The same production company who made the first film, Chungeorahm Film, is already gearing up for the sequel, according to Twitch Film. Although no director or cast is announced yet, shooting will begin this fall for a release in 2008. As far as I can assume, that means a Korean release in 2008, with likely an American release to follow either in late 2008 or early 2009.
Why is this good news? Thinking back to the film and its story, it ended in a way where a sequel could certainly be allowed without taking too much away from what made the first one so great. And even on top of that, I have some faith in the way this film was made that if they took that same formula and applied it to a new sequel it could be just as good. Anyone else who's seen it agree with me?

I really rated the film. I tried on a number of occasions to rent it out and wasn't disappointed when I eventually got it.
You have to compliment the makers for having the guts to show the monster within about 15 minutes of the film starting and also showing it in daylight. If this was a hollywood film they would have waited at least an hour and shot it in darkness.
The film was a tad over sentimental but it dealt with some good themes of family, sacrifice and courage and I genuinely enjoyed it.
I'd certainly be keen to check out the sequel.

I agree with Payne except the last part.
I don't want a sequel. Especially when it will not be done by the same director.
Host was a nice new original take on the monster movie and I just
feel that a sequel will not be able to be as good as the original.

Are you guys crazy? It was a challenge to sit through this entire crappy movie. My girlfriend was mad at me because I wouldn't turn it off. It wasn't even worth the rental. I'm one of the few that like this genre of film but I thought it was a waste of life. One of the best movies of the year? I'll say it again. Are you guys crazy?
