The Winter of Frankie MachineFor the ninth time, film legends Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese will team up together for a feature adaptation of Don Winslow’s novel "The Winter of Frankie Machine". The report comes from Deadline Hollywood (via SlashFilm), where its stated that Scorsese will direct under his deal with Paramount. We've been somewhat skeptical of any of his directing announcements, because there have been so damn many since his Oscar buzz and win, but Nikki at Deadline Hollywood is pretty reliable.

In the film, De Niro will play Mafia hit man Frank Machianno who has given up the game to become the proprietor of a bait shop. But he discovers that he's been targeted for a hit, and is forced to return to the business.

The screenplay was written by Ocean's Thirteen writers Brian Koppelman and David Levien, and was reviewed over at LatinoReview.com and called "a masterpiece." Could these be a better formula for the "next" Departed? The writers of Ocean's Thirteen, who put together a great film there, then the excellence of Scorsese and De Niro all combined for another mob film? Damn this looks good!

For those that are curious, the other eight films that De Niro and Scorsese have done together are: Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, New York New York, Raging Bull, The King Of Comedy, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, and Casino.
